🟢 About Mapon
Mapon builds B2B SaaS for companies whose work happens in the physical world. Our platform helps businesses manage vehicles, drivers, and equipment, improve road safety, reduce costs, automate daily operations, and comply with complex transport regulations.
We started in Riga in 2006. Today, more than 35,000 clients use Mapon, with over 400,000 connected devices on the platform. We have 200+ colleagues across Europe and a network of 150+ partners worldwide. In 2025, Mapon grew revenue by 22.8% to 24.2 million EUR while remaining profitable. We have completed eight acquisitions and intend to keep growing organically and through M&A.
Connected devices and vehicle data sit at the foundation of much of what Mapon does. Our products depend on our ability to reliably connect to vehicles and equipment, collect the right data, and turn it into capabilities that solve real customer problems.
We’re looking for a Product Manager – Connected Devices & Vehicle Data to own and lead the direction of this area across Mapon.
🎯 Why you’ll love working at Mapon
This role gives you ownership of one of the fundamental capability areas behind the Mapon platform.
You’ll shape how Mapon approaches connected devices, connectivity, and vehicle data - from deciding which technologies and hardware we invest in to identifying new data we should acquire and turning those capabilities into products.
You won’t simply coordinate requirements coming from different teams. You’ll be expected to form a point of view, set direction, make trade-offs, and lead the organization toward a coherent device and vehicle-data strategy.
You’ll work across product, hardware, firmware, software engineering, commercial teams, and external technology partners. Because these capabilities support many Mapon products, your decisions can have an impact far beyond a single product team.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Own the strategy and roadmap for Mapon’s connected-device and vehicle-data ecosystem.
- Shape a technology landscape spanning hundreds of thousands of connected devices.
- Lead decisions about Mapon-developed hardware, third-party devices, connectivity, and vehicle integrations.
- Define which device and data capabilities Mapon should standardize and invest in.
- Drive R&D into new vehicle data sources and turn successful experiments into scalable platform capabilities.
- Influence the direction of multiple Mapon products by enabling data and capabilities that don’t exist today.
- Establish scalable practices for configuration, updates, compatibility, and device lifecycle management.
- Work directly with hardware manufacturers, connectivity providers, vehicle technologies, and emerging data sources.
🧩 About the role
As Product Manager – Connected Devices & Vehicle Data, you’ll own the product direction for the technology layer connecting vehicles and equipment to the Mapon platform. This is broader than managing a hardware portfolio.
A customer-facing Mapon capability may depend on which device is installed, what data the vehicle exposes, how that data is acquired, device configuration and firmware, cellular connectivity, data quality, and how those signals are made available to our software products.
Your responsibility is to make sure these pieces evolve as one deliberate product ecosystem rather than a collection of individual technologies and integrations.
You’ll define where Mapon should go in this area, build the roadmap to get there, and align Product, Engineering, Infrastructure and Operations around that direction.
That means making decisions such as:
Which capabilities should become standard across our device portfolio? Where should we build our own hardware and where should we rely on partners? Which third-party devices should we support? Which new vehicle data sets are worth investing in? How should we manage configuration and firmware across a large installed base?
An important part of the role is looking ahead. Vehicles, hardware, connectivity, and available data are constantly evolving. You’ll lead the exploration of new possibilities, work with engineers to validate them, and decide which ones should become part of Mapon’s future product capabilities.
You won’t need to design electronics, write firmware, or decode vehicle protocols yourself. But you need enough technical understanding to challenge assumptions, evaluate alternatives, make informed trade-offs, and lead technical product discussions with confidence.
What you’ll do
Lead the connected-device and vehicle-data strategy
- Own the vision, strategy, roadmap, and outcomes for Mapon’s connected-device and vehicle-data ecosystem.
- Define which hardware, vehicle integrations, data capabilities, and technologies Mapon should invest in to support current and future products.
- Shape how Mapon turns new vehicle data and technical capabilities into scalable product opportunities.
- Make portfolio and prioritization decisions across Mapon-developed hardware, third-party devices, integrations, and R&D initiatives.
- Identify capability gaps, emerging technologies, and new data sources that could create customer or business value.
Shape the device ecosystem and lifecycle
- Define how devices and their capabilities fit into the wider Mapon product portfolio.
- Own the product perspective across the full device lifecycle - from evaluation and introduction to deployment, operation, replacement, and end-of-life.
- Drive scalable practices for device configuration, firmware and software updates, compatibility, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
- Own the dependencies that make connected devices work reliably at scale, including connectivity profiles, SIM/eSIM, roaming, coverage, data consumption, and cost.
- Work with engineering teams to ensure device, firmware, configuration, connectivity, and vehicle-data capabilities evolve as one coherent ecosystem rather than as separate technical components.
- Reduce unnecessary fragmentation and complexity across the installed device base.
Lead across teams and partners
- Set direction across an area that spans Product, hardware, firmware, software engineering, Operations, and commercial teams.
- Work closely with Mapon hardware engineers and third-party hardware vendors to define requirements, influence roadmaps, and evaluate new technologies.
- Lead build-vs-buy, vendor, and technology decisions based on strategic value, reliability, cost, scalability, and time to market.
- Work with other Product Managers to ensure connected-device and vehicle-data capabilities support the broader Mapon product strategy.
- Challenge assumptions, make trade-offs, and create alignment around decisions that affect multiple teams and products.
- Build strong relationships with hardware manufacturers, connectivity providers, OEMs, and other technology partners while ensuring Mapon’s product direction drives the decisions.
Lead across organizational boundaries
This is a leadership role even though it does not necessarily come with a large team reporting directly to you. You’ll lead through direction, expertise, decisions, and influence.
You’ll be expected to bring structure to ambiguous technical areas, make decisions where ownership previously crossed several teams, and create alignment around a clear direction.
You’ll work with Product Managers, hardware and firmware engineers, software teams, Operations, Sales, HAM, and external partners - but your role is not simply to collect and reconcile their requirements. You’ll be expected to challenge them when necessary, make trade-offs, explain the reasoning behind decisions, and keep the organization moving toward a coherent long-term strategy.
🔎 Who you are
You combine strong product thinking with genuine technical depth and curiosity.
You may already be a Product Manager or Technical Product Manager, or you may come from IoT, automotive technology, embedded systems, telecommunications, solutions engineering, or another technical field and have developed strong product and business instincts.
You:
- Have experience owning a product, platform, technology area, or complex technical capability.
- Are comfortable setting direction rather than waiting for requirements.
- Can take an ambiguous technical domain, develop a structured point of view, and turn it into a strategy and roadmap.
- Have the confidence to make prioritization decisions that affect multiple teams and products.
- Can lead through influence and bring people with different technical and commercial perspectives toward a common direction.
- Are comfortable working deeply with engineers and discussing architecture, technical constraints, and trade-offs.
- Can translate business and product needs into technical capabilities and technical possibilities into business opportunities.
- Think in systems and understand dependencies between hardware, connectivity, data, software, operations, and customer products.
- Prefer building scalable capabilities over solving the same customer problem repeatedly.
- Can evaluate technology vendors critically rather than simply accepting vendor roadmaps and claims.
- Understand that reliability, maintainability, lifecycle, operational complexity, and unit economics are product concerns.
- Are comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and validating assumptions through R&D and experimentation.
- Communicate complex technical topics clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Are fluent in English, as Mapon operates internationally and English is the common language across our locations.
It’s a strong plus if you have experience with:
- Telematics, IoT or large fleets of connected devices.
- Embedded hardware and firmware environments.
- CAN bus, FMS, OBD, J1939, or other vehicle communication protocols.
- Device configuration and firmware/update management.
- SIM/eSIM, cellular connectivity, roaming, or IoT connectivity platforms.
- Hardware vendor and hardware product lifecycle management.
- Designing platform capabilities or APIs consumed by multiple products.
- Taking R&D initiatives from experimentation into production.
- Logistics, transportation, fleet management, mobility, or similar industries.
What matters is your ability to understand a complex technical ecosystem, develop a strong point of view about where it should go, and lead the organization toward that direction.
