About Bolt
Bolt is shaping a future where cities are built for people, not cars. What started as an ambitious project of a 19-year-old in 2013 has grown into a global mobility platform used by more than 200 million customers and 4.5 million driver and courier partners across 50 countries.
From ride-hailing and food delivery to scooters, e-bikes, and car-sharing, Bolt helps people move through cities every day. Small, autonomous teams drive this work, combining the speed and ownership of a startup with the scale of a global technology company backed by more than €1bn in funding.
And we're just getting started.
Why join Bolt?
- Build the future of mobility and help transform how people live and move in cities.
- Tackle challenges at scale that span technology, operations, regulation, and growth.
- Take real ownership early. Small, lean teams mean your decisions matter from day one, and you'll learn fast alongside some of the best people in the industry.
- Join one of Europe's leading technology companies, backed by world-class investors including Sequoia.
About the role
The Senior Electronics Engineer takes Bolt's electronics from initial specification to mass production. The role owns the IoT and vehicle electronics hardware for our scooters and e-bikes end-to-end: architecture, schematics and PCB layout, prototyping, design verification, certification, new product introduction and support of mass production.
The engineer works as an individual contributor inside the Electronics Engineering team, takes technical direction from the Lead Electronics Engineer, and works closely with firmware, mechanical engineering, field application engineering, supply chain and local operations teams.
Main tasks and responsibilities
Including but not limited to:
- Translate product and firmware requirements into component selection, block diagrams, schematics and multilayer PCB designs in Altium, including controlled-impedance stack-ups for RF and high-speed signals, keeping to cost and availability targets.
- Prepare designs for compliance and drive certification testing with external labs (CE/RED, EMC, FCC/ISED, UKCA, etc), including pre-compliance measurements and corrective design iterations.
- Apply design-for-manufacturing and design-for-test principles; define production test strategy, test fixtures and system-in-loop procedures together with the firmware team and the manufacturing partner.
- Lead root-cause analysis of field and production failures, and drive corrective actions through design or supplier changes.
- Maintain BOM cost, component lifecycle and second-source planning; handle cost-down and reliability improvement iterations.
- Act as the technical counterpart for electronics suppliers and contract manufacturers on component sourcing, quality issues and process questions.
About you
- You have 5+ years of hands-on embedded electronics design experience.
- Experience with radio and high-speed signals is a must: cellular (LTE, 5G), GNSS and BLE/Wi-Fi integration, antenna selection and placement, design with controlled impedances.
- You have strong schematic capture and multilayer PCB layout and routing skills (Altium preferred), including designing with keeping signal integrity and manufacturability, testing in mind.
- You have solid power electronics fundamentals: DC/DC converters, battery charging and protection, low-power design for battery-operated devices.
- You have experience with embedded microcontrollers and peripherals, and common interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, CAN and USB; you’re comfortable debugging at the hardware/firmware boundary.
- You have experience working with contract manufacturers and component suppliers: DFM/DFT, manufacturing data packages, production testing and first-article support.
Nice to have
- Experience with connected vehicles, micromobility, automotive or other outdoor, vibration- and weather-exposed products (IP-rated enclosures, wide operational temperature ranges).
- Experience with motor controllers, battery management systems or CAN-based vehicle networks.
- Experience with displays, LED drivers, audio amplifiers, IMUs and sensor integration.
- Familiarity with FCC/ISED (North America) and UKCA requirements in addition to CE.
- Experience with Altium 365 and formal hardware revision and release management.
- Have taken at least one product from concept to mass production.
Why you’ll love it here
