Tallinn University announces a competition for a position of Tenure Track Associate Professor (the position of Tenure System career level I).
Tallinn University is a recognized center for research and education, with more than 1,000 employees and around 7,000 students. Our mission is to support Estonias sustainable development by contributing to it through high-quality research, creative and educational activities, encouraging societal debate and collaborating with businesses, the public and the third sector.
The School of Humanities is the largest center for education and research in the humanities in Tallinn, offering programs at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels.
In light of the evolving general education system in Estonia, the prominence of language teaching and the variety of taught languages have notably increased. Additionally, there is a growing need to support and train teachers of other subjects who often have to teach their subjects in a foreign or second language within the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) framework. We aim to foster new synergies and scientific collaboration in teaching Estonian as a second language and foreign languages, thereby improving the overall efficiency and integration of language learning in Estonia. Teaching multicultural study groups in schools requires innovative teaching methods. There is also a need to teach and develop Estonian language skills among learners with diverse backgrounds.
All these changes highlight a clear need for research in foreign language didactics and language learning that meets the expectations and needs of contemporary learners. In advancing this field, the future professor will be supported by highly qualified colleagues who teach and research various languages, engage in language didactics at the university, and are motivated to participate in scientific research.
